Light Hearted with CreativeMornings
“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” –Walt Disney
When we look back to the beginnings of The Beeswax Co., only a burning curiosity could have led us here. We’re filled with this great feeling of discovery every time a new batch of beeswax comes in. We play a guessing game among ourselves: What plants have the bees been pollinating? What color will it be–a deep brown, a lemon yellow? Where in Texas did it come from? There are so many facets to beeswax candles that keep us asking questions. People ask us, what’s the best part of making beeswax candles? Undoubtedly, it’s the way that pouring candles keeps our five senses alive. When we pour, we see the molten wax flow, we smell the rich honey scent, we feel the heat of the wax, and we hear the bubbling of melting wax. When we’re really lucky, our suppliers will send us honey from the hives that produced the beeswax. Then we get to “taste” the beeswax, too.
The folks at CreativeMornings share our love for new discoveries, so we were thrilled when they asked us to host a creative field trip this month. CreativeMornings is a monthly lecture series that spans across 179 cities around the world. Completely free, this series seeks to inspire the creative community through monthly themes. Can you guess this month’s theme? It’s curiosity! Have you ever been curious about the candle making process? Have you ever wanted to try pouring for yourself? This month, thanks to CreativeMornings, dozens of Austinites followed their curiosity and took a field trip with us to The Refinery, a beautiful co-working space geared toward creatives. Thanks to the great enthusiasm of these ladies, we spent a lovely morning pouring heart-shaped candles. As a special treat, our patrons got to sample some honey from Tallow Tree.
